MIE Software provides off-the-shelf software packages and related computer and support services for event management and membership management. Our clients are organisations and individuals that function as membership seretariats and/or hold and organise meetings and events, primarily corporations, professional meeting managers, professional associations and educational establishments.

Kaye Stanistreet and John Clingeleffer


The directors of MIE Software are John Clingeleffer and Kaye Stanistreet. Kaye was a registered nurse and midwife who moved to the health informatics industry (the use of computers within health) studying programming and software analysis. Kaye, a member of the Australian Computer Society (MACS), spent from 1984 to 1993 specifying, designing and programming a range of healthcare computer systems. John has worked in the informatics industry for seventeen years with experience in the user, vendor, systems implementation and software development areas.

They came into the meetings industry when, in early 1993 they were asked to set up and manage the secretariat of a newly formed national association (The Health Informatics Society of Australia). With secretariat management came responsibility for organising and managing the association’s inaugural conference. To simplify these tasks, they developed software to meet the needs of both membership management and conference management. They called the latter software the Summit Event Manager.

Summit was first used to organise the HIC’93 conference in August 1993. This conference attracted over 300 delegates, had an extensive scientific programme of 70 speakers and a large trade exhibition. The software saved over $4,000 on budgeted catering costs alone.

As a great deal of interest was expressed in the software at HIC’93 and at subsequent conferences, they decided to develop the software into a full commercial product.

Their goal was to be the first company to provide the meetings industry with:

  • a fully functional event management software package at a shrink-wrapped price, with
  • support and service well above the norm for a package of this price.

They have maintained this goal as both their software range and client base has grown and diversified.
